Water Scarcity

Bangalore is one of the most sought after cities in India because of various factors. It may be due to its pleasant climatic conditions, or due to its being one of the global centers for I.T. And B.T. Establishments, or due to the availability of world class educational and medical facilities, or due to courteous behavior of the people. Whatever be the reason, a large number of people residing in other parts of the country and abroad prefer to have an abode in Bangalore. This huge demand for housing and house sites has given a fillip to the ever increasing construction activities in and around Bangalore.

One can see a large number of new apartment buildings coming up on the outskirts of Bangalore on all the four sides. Though the Government of Karnataka did not anticipate such a huge populace in Bangalore, it is still trying its best to provide appropriate infrastructural facilities in the newly added areas of Bangalore and sincere efforts are made to improve the infrastructural facilities such as good metallic roads, reliable public transport, water and electricity supply, sanitary facilities, Etc. No doubt, the potable water requirement of the city is met satisfactorily for the present in spite of the fact that some of the Existing ponds and lakes are drying up , some are completely polluted and the underground water is depleting very fast while the Cauvery water resource has become the subject matter of adjudication before Tribunals and courts. With this grim situation on the waterfront, the Government may consider whether would it be possible to meet the potable water requirement to the ever increasing population of Bangalore

If the answer is in the negative, would it not be proper for the Government to develop the other prime cities of the State like Tumkur, Mysore, Davangere, Hub II Dharwar, Shimoga, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Raichur etc., by providing world class infrastructural facilities in these cities so that the industrialists could set up their establishments in these cities in the overall development of the State?
