These types of constructions are popular in the developed world. They are favoured for their conveniences including time and cost.
Different parts of a home Viz., roof, columns, doors etc could be pre-fabricated and reduces human error as against site constructed houses. Various energy efficient devices such as solar, wind etc. could be implanted without difficulties.
Another attractive feature in them is cost effectiveness. Many among us feel about lack of availability of modern house structure with in a reasonable budget allocation. Modular houses as it is claimed by their promoters satisfy this aspect significantly.

This discourages builders because of uncertain with orders they receive. Therefore they are not prepared to invest huge amount of resources and end-up with locking of them due to less amount of work.
Because of the nature of production this industry attracts excise duty, sales and other charges applicable. Though labour charges are less in current ages they may increase in future. With this complex scenario it is doubtful that there will be a trend change towards modular houses. However with subsidy components and other concessions the Govt can try out this method of construction to meet out low cost housing to urban and rural poorer sections. People affected with natural calamities could also be built with these types of houses. We need a policy shift with this respect.
