SMALL CORRECTIONS, BIG EFFECT ON YOUR HOME

SMALL CORRECTIONS, BIG EFFECT ON YOUR HOME

Creative man can indeed transform a dull room. He can inject life into it, and make it lively and interesting. Small adjustments, a nudge here and a poke there, can give a home an entirely new look. It not only makes the atmosphere charming but also enhances functional and utilitarian aspects.
For instance, if the China cabinet is brought into the living room, that will create a new focal point in an otherwise dull room. The shelves could be aesthetically filled with accessories like decorative plants, pictures, books, vases, candles etc., so that they would come into view when the doors are opened. You can introduce surprise by embellishing furniture with some artwork. Another option would be to hang artwork low on the wall, say between a lamp and a sofa or chair.
If the ceiling is white, it will certainly create a feeling of space in the room. But to give a new look there are other options. Painting the ceiling in an ancient colour or mounting faux beams is one. Hanging potted artificial plants from high beams in a vaulted room creates a pleasant feeling.
Inverted  ‘V’
An inverted 'V' arrangement facing the focal point will give a change of pace compared to standard configurations. You can place other pieces of furniture before the sofa instead of the standard coffee table. Search the home for unique pieces of furniture which may not be getting the attention they deserve.  If they are brought into the living room or family room they will naturally become more functional and draw appreciation.
Try out a garden stake and slip some inexpensive rings over it to draw the curtain. If you want to be really creative and unique use odd things for curtain rods, say old golf clubs, a decorated PVC pipe, a broom stick, or a jazzed up tennis racquet. Plate racks can become instant cornices at windows.  As the seasons change, so can the plates.
Old suitcases can be stacked on top of each other to create an instant lamp table or a small coffee table. A scarf can be draped over them or books can be placed on top of them. In one of the rooms, keep a decorative storage box atop an old suitcase. For customised looks try readymade drapes. Stitch a bullion fringe to the bottom or a hot glue gun can be used to attach it. It will really take them to the next level easily and quickly.
Collect all unusual items and place them in a shallow box. It will become a very good conversation piece with everyone commenting and enquiring about them. All available things should not be placed adjacent to each other, for that would be a bit tedious to look at. Use just three or four items, and that will lend an element of surprise.
Wall  Groupings
Suppose you are placing a grouping on the wall. The easier way is to lay them on the floor in front of the wall. Work out all arrangements on the floor first, and check for balance. Each individual element should be equidistant from the next one. The effect will be a unified look.
The colours should be spread evenly throughout the grouping. One should bear in mind that colour can easily throw the grouping out of balance. The outer shape of the grouping should form a geometric shape pleasing to the eye.
For a final check, the outline of each element in the grouping should be traced and taped on the wall in the place chosen for it. Check out the grouping with house one eye closed to see whether the overall shape comes close to a rectangle, an oval, a circle, a square or a triangle.
One should never hang anything over a furniture when its width is less than the width of what is on the wall. If it is done it will look too heavy. If anything wider is really needed to be hung over a piece of furniture, place something next to it, so that what is below will visually support what is above.
Mirrors in a grouping should always be placed at or near the centre as they always attract more attention.  They are great for visual arresting and anchoring. It should always be better to check out what a mirror will be reflecting, and you should make sure that the reflection is worthy of being reflected.
